Primary Malignant Lymphoma of the Gastrointestinal Tract


Abstract
A series of 28 malignant lymphomas of the gastrointestinal tract obtained during a period of four years and six months from both institute of Hanyang University Hospital and National Medical Center was studid to reassess pathologic characteristics.
The cases were grouperd to localization, size, shape and histology of the tumors according to the Worklng formulation .
Thr results showed that the occurrence being nine cases in the stomach, 13 in the ileocecal region, and 3 each in the small and large intestine. The most common gross appearance of tumors was ulcero-iufiltrative in type (12 out of 28 cases), and it was impossible to distingguish malignant lymphomas from primary adenocarrinomas of the same site by the gross examination.
Histologic subtypes of the 28 tumors constituted small lymphocytic in 2 cases, smallcleaverd In 4, large cell in 13, immunoblastic in 8, and Iymphoblastic in one case. Of
these,21 tilmors measured 5cm or more in diameter, and 26 cases involved the muscle coat or beyond.
No significant relation between the histologic subtype and location of tumors and gross appearance of the tumor was present.
